Musicianship Classes
The third session (after the break) is dedicated to 'Musicianship' classes.
We operate a carousel system, where the members of the centre are assigned
to groups (based on ability and age). Staff usually spend half of a term
with each group.
Each member of staff presents a different aspect of music. The
current range of subjects include history, composition, improvisation,
performance, music theory and listening.
There are several non-carousel groups (ie the same member of staff has
the same group throughout the year). These provide tuition for music
theory, with grade 1, grade 3 and grade 5 (and above) groups, with the specific aim of
working towards theory exams. There is also a group for younger members,
providing an introduction to aspects of the carousel system.
